IPA Day – What is IPA?

Gearing up for International IPA day on August 1st and, in particular, the first ever Newark CAMRA IPA Trail which runs from August 1st-4th, it has been surprising how many people have asked the question ‘What is IPA?’

There have been many, many thousands of words written about this classic beer style over the years and we’re not about to cover the subject here, but this Wiki article will give you a good backgound history of the style.

It is a classic English beer style that over the decades has evolved and transformed (thanks mainly to the Americans) into a variety of sub-styles which fit under the IPA umbrella.

Just Beer will be celebrating this classic style and most of its variants in the upcoming IPA Trail, starting next Thursday (1st Aug) when we will feature at least three IPAs on the bar at all times during the trail (stocks permitting).

Just Beer’s IPA Trail final list.

  • Arbor (Bristol) – Mosaic IPA 6.8%
  • Brewhouse & Kitchen (Portsmouth) – Black Swan Black IPA 5.7%
  • Double Top (Worksop) – IPA 5.5%
  • Geeves (Barnsley) – Fully Laden IPA 6%
  • Hamelsworde (Hemsworth) – Cherokee American IPA 6%
  • Mallard (Maythorne) – IPA 5%
  • Maypole (Eakring) – Red Eye PA 5.2%
  • North Riding/Revolutions collaboration (Scarborough) – Punch the Clock Double IPA 7.8%

So read up on the style, tell all your friends, then come and sample some cracking examples at Just Beer. Don’t forget to collect your stickers whilst doing the trail to be in with a chance of winning prizes.

Cheers,

The Tapsters.
